AFC Urgent Care Saugus would like to wish everyone a spooky Halloween! We hope everyone is getting spooky but there is one thing that is scarier than ghost & ghouls this month, the flu! By this time of the year, most people seem to forget that flu season is from September to December. In other words, we are in the middle of flu season right now! We would like to give you some tips on how to stay away from the flu this year!
Get your flu shot
The easiest way to protect against the flu is to get the flu shot! The flu shot is made new every year so even if you got the flu shot last year, you will still need to get the shot again this year. The flu virus comes back in a new strand every single year. However, the flu shot will not protect you 100% since it is about 75% effective. This means you still need to pursue other measures to stay safe from the flu.
Wash your hands
Washing your hands is the easiest way to prevent yourself from getting the flu. Your hands carry thousands of germs each day & need to be washed multiple times throughout the day. Some instances of when you should wash your hands are:
- After you play with an animal
- After you play outside
- After you use public transportation
- After you shake hands with someone who could be infected
If you are not near a bathroom, start to carry around hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is also a great way to kill viruses while you’re on the go & will protect you!
Remember the flu is an extremely contagious virus. If you remind other to get their flu shot then you are protecting the people around you & yourself! The more people that you know that get flu shots the better! Friends & family are all welcome to get their shots here at AFC Urgent Care Saugus! One child who is not protected could bring the flu to dozens of households so please remember to get your flu shot!
We hope these tips will help you beat the flu this year For any other questions or concerns please feel free to call us at 781.233.1000
